On Monday morning (IN THREE DAYS?!), we will begin our adventure from Annapolis, MD. We hope to dip one tire in the Atlantic and complete our journey in July by dipping the other in the Pacific when we reach the West Coast. It's hard to believe May 17th is almost here, after so much planning and training. We have been training on the beautiful country roads around Davidson, so we might miss the cows next week when we're riding through urban areas. We're working to get everything organized- including our support van (a.k.a. the Wombat), supplies, gear, contacts, our exact route (errr...) and camera equipment. We will arrive in D.C. on Monday afternoon and will be in the city until May 20th. We have set up interviews with National Coalition for the Homeless, National Alliance to End Homelessness, Robert Egger at D.C. Central Kitchen, and HUD (Dept. of Housing and Urban Development). We will also be interviewing some people who are homeless in the city.Feel free to contact us with any suggestions, questions or concerns! We look forward to sharing our journey with you.

Congrats guys. So wonderful what you are doing. I am a davidson grad who have spent my post grad life working with folks who are homeless. In DC on Thursday the 20th, we have a huge event to support our work. We use sport as development tool and thursday is our Sport for Social Change Awards. We will have formerly homeless graduates and advocates there including NAEH ceo Nan Roman, it's really a special gathering. you all should stop by. Thanks! I'm a Davidson alum ('01) that has been working with the chronically homeless since graduating, and I am thrilled that this issue is being focussed on in such an incredible way. I am now with the North Carolina Coalition to End Homelessness, and I would love to meet with you all when you get done to see what you find out on your trip.
ReplyDeleteWhile you are in DC, check out Miriam's Kitchen. I used to work there, and it is an amazing organization that uses gourmet food to engage some of the hardest to engage in the homeless community. Scott Schenkelberg is the ED there. Check out their website miriamskitchen.org.
